The Cogmed Working Memory Training is a set of computerized exercises, using the RoboMemo software with support from a Cogmed-qualified coach. Training is typically done at home, with daily support from a training aide, usually a parent who participates in each training session. Training takes five weeks, 45-60 minutes a day, five days a week. The exercises require the child to remember a sequence of numbers, letters, or small lamps lighting. The exercises become increasingly challenging as the program progresses, but are calibrated to accommodate each child's individual level of progress. The coach meets with the child and training aid at the onset of the program to describe exactly what is involved and what you can expect at each step.
Each day when the child finishes training, the results are automatically sent to the coach via the Internet. Weekly telephone contact by the coach to review progress and discuss any potential issues serves to optimize the training experience. Not only does the coach monitor the child's progress, but s/he also provides support for the adult who is supervising the training. A meeting is conducted at the completion of the program where an overall review of progress is measured and reviewed.
The exercises are conducted via a direct connection with a server at Cogmed headquarters in Sweden over a secure connection. What you need to get started is access to a personal computer with a disk drive, speakers and an Internet connection. Technical support is available throughout training.
